Replicating Tables
Here’s a sneak preview of our ability to replicate student tables onto the teacher console. Each view of the student’s table is, of course, a multi-touch element that can be moved, rotated, etc. Iyad has plans to do something quite amazing in the next iteration… stay tuned.
Early Networking Capability
A key capability of our multi-touch software is in the ability to leverage robust networking. After Tom Barrett‘s recent visit, we were prompted to showcase some of the capability and sent him a video.
Usability Lab
Our usability lab has been operating for several months now, and has been collecting data from five experiments. We will be reporting the results of these experiments in the near future through papers intended for publication.
Jobs
If you are interested in doing a PhD or MSc by Research in Technology Enhanced Learning, Computer Science for Education or Computer Science Education please contact Prof. Elizabeth Burd for more information.
Opening up the process
Tom Barrett took time out from teaching to visit us in Durham. It is exciting to discuss the potential for multi-touch desks in classrooms with somebody who understands and has experience of the technology. Tom has agreed to facilitate the open nature in which we want to run the project – both from a technology and a process perspective.
To this end, Tom has setup a flickr group where we are inviting educators to submit their ideas for applications of multi-touch in the classroom.
On his blog, Tom has also shared some of the video he took during our visit.
Pupils from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs
Pupils from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Esh Winning, Co. Durham came to the laboratories of the Technology Enhanced Learning Research Group to try out the early stages of the SynergyNet software produced as part of this project.
Lumin Tables
We have received two multi-touch surfaces from Lumin Visual Technologies AG. The TEL team has already developed the necessary component to interface this hardware with the software that will form a major delivery of the project.
TEL Project Award
The Technology Enhanced Learning Research Group was successful in its £1.5m application to the TLRP TEL fund. The project is a collaboration between researchers at Durham University from the departments of Computer Science, Education and Psychology.
